I began training with Ellen when she moved to Bristol in 2005. At the time, I was riding in the riding club attending rallies without really having a goal. I started lessons with Ellen. During the following 10 years, I competed at Novice eventing, showjumped to Newcomers and competed at BD advanced Medium including riding at the Regionals at that level.
I spent hours on the lunge learning my seat in the true German style.
Ellen then persuaded me to start teaching and Im now a successful coach Myself. None of this would have been achieved without Ellen. Thank you .
Ellens' lessons are great. They are fun, varied, planned, challenging and encouraging. She always has a lesson plan but is happy to change things around if I have anything specific I want to work on. She is very knowledgable about different approaches to dressage and encourages me to experiment with different techniques to see what works best with my horses. Behind all her teaching is her keenness to ensure the horse is happy in its work, which is helped by a steady flow of polos. 🙂 🙂 🙂
I started working with Ellen nearly a year ago, having just purchased a very green cob! Ellen has been a key part of our success from barely being able to turn a circle to starting lateral work, jumping a full course of fences and galloping on the beach! Ellen has a wealth of knowledge, is continually learning and her approach fills both you and the horse with confidence. She doesn’t advocate quick fixes, instead favouring a kind and consistent approach which lays the foundations for a happy equine partnership. I am so grateful for her guidance and I always recommend Ellen when anyone asks for lessons.
Ellen is a highly effective instructor, catering for riders at all levels and degrees of confidence. Her lessons focus on specific areas of improvement. They are fun, well thought out and offer an appropriate level of challenge. Ellen's approach is always pragmatic. She always praises achievement and progress, and encourages the rider to state what they are taking away from each session. I highly recommend her.
Ellen is an incredibly knowledgeable riding instructor who cares both about horse and rider. I come away from every lesson with Ellen feeling more confident, skilled and motivated. Whatever your goals/focus with riding - Ellen will help you achieve them!
Ellen's combination of coaching and holistic human-horsemanship brings tremendous perspective in understanding the individual through connection and collaboration with horses. The type of self discovery and partnership development with your horse is very compelling. Strongly recommend !
Having Ellen as my coach has been one of the best decisions I made for me and my horse, since having our lessons I have noticed a massive improvement in the following •my horse has gained topline and muscles in all the right places •we are ready to be able to have the confidence to compete in dressage at novice level without feeling judged •my confidence has soared •he is happier in his schooling and doing moves we only dreamed off •he is flexible and his overall frame and way of going is so much better and the best he has felt in the 6 yrs I’ve owned him •I love schooling him as I can see and feel the improvements Ellen really understands my way of thinking and adapts her teaching in a way that is fun and easy for me to understand and put in to action, she is a massive confidence giver and also rides him beautifully to demonstrate to me or when I just need her to feel what I’m feeling! Watching her ride and school him is lovely to witness and really inspiring we have had lots of people that know us comment on the difference in us both now which for me means we are doing something right and we want to continue with Ellen

Coming from Germany, she's grown up with a structured approach to training and can simplify the theory behind it all for you. As the Germans specialise in a good seat, it seemed logical to look into biomechanics and become an expert in finding language to describe what is happening in your body when you're riding. She can also help you dealing with your emotions and has a wealth of experience what to do when you've 'lost your nerve'. Being a Centre 10 coach for applied psychology has added more coaching tools.
